Solar street lighting / campus lighting is another commonly used solution/ application of Solar energy. The main advantage of this solution is – it can be installed anywhere without drawing long cable lines and it operates automatically from dusk to dawn.

The solar street lights now use Li-ion / Li-Fe battery and it is integrated inside the luminary. These batteries are more efficient and require no maintenance. As a result, the performance of solar street light is increasing. In this type only luminary and battery is integrated and the solar PV module is installed in the top of the pole like the old method facing the south direction. There is another advance version available where Luminary, battery and solar PV module is integrated into one system. This type is known as all-in-one solar outdoor lighting. These are suitable for campus or parking area lighting rather than street.
